Night Rating
Why only fly during the day? With your night rating you will be able to enjoy flying under the stars in the calm night air – a truly unique experience!
Montair’s night rating endorsement meets and exceeds all of the Transport Canada requirements allowing you to fly in VFR conditions after sunset.
You will need 5 hours of dual training and 5 hours solo practice at night, in addition to a total of 10 hours dual instrument time (and yes, your PPL instrument time can count towards this!).
The night rating also forms part of the requirement of the Commercial Pilot Licence and you are recommended for the rating by your instructor – so no flight test is needed.
There are no membership fees at Montair.

- Valid Category 1 or 3 Aviation Medical

Please Note: 1. Dependent on your previous experience, some of this time can be completed in the simulator. Instrument time that you already have in your logbook can also be credited towards the 10 hour total, with most pilots having a minimum 5 hours of credit from the Private Pilot Licence.
Aircraft rates are current as of Jan 6, 2025 and based on fuel costs at that time. Fuel charges may increase or decrease in line with retail fuel prices, in accordance with Montair’s Fuel Charge Pricing.
The TOTAL ESTIMATE is based on flight training being conducted in a Cessna 172 to meet Transport Canada minimum experience requirements. Additional hours may be required to meet Transport Canada proficiency standards.
All flight training students will be required to undertake a formal Aviation Language Proficiency Demonstration to be issued a Canadian Aviation Booklet unless they are Canadian citizens who have graduated from, or are currently enrolled in, a Canadian English speaking high school and have the approval of the Chief Flight Instructor.

Please note that this program of instruction does not require approval under Private Training Institutions Regulatory Unit (PTIRU) of the Ministry of Post Secondary Education and Future Skills. As such, PTIRU did not review this program.
