Who We Are

Founded in 1988, Montair was established with the goal of training future professional pilots to a skill and knowledge level that would allow them to serve the airline industry with minimal further training required. To achieve this goal, Montair set about running scheduled flights in its Pilatus PC12 aircraft, allowing the flight instructors to gain valuable experience and knowledge to pass onto their students.

Due to the strong demand for skilled airline pilots from China’s rapidly growing aviation industry, the company took a new direction in 2005. Montair was, and continues to be, one of the few schools around the world to receive approval from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) to train airline pilots. The company is able to use the experience gained from running a commercial operation, as well as years of experience, and apply it to building an advanced airline training program designed to provide the most professional, highly skilled pilots to the airlines. To date, Montair has trained and graduated hundreds of airline pilots, a number that continues to grow.

Our purpose-built facilities at the Pitt Meadows Airport (CYPK) allow pilot training for students from Canada and around the world with clean and modern classrooms equipped with the latest technology, multi-crew simulator, and a fleet of aircraft equipped with state of the art instrument and navigation equipment.

Montair continues to expand its training program both in terms of student capacity and the acquisition of additional training assets.

We were able to achieve these designations by drawing on our experience of running both scheduled and charter operations, and using it to build an advanced airline training program designed to provide the most professional, highly skilled pilots to commercial operators. To date, Montair has trained and graduated hundreds of current airline pilots, from dozens of countries.

Accreditation

Montair is one of only a select number of flight schools around the world to receive approval from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) to train future Chinese airline pilots. We also have authorization from Transport Canada to deliver Integrated ATPL courses, the highest level of professional training course available in Canada. Currently, only 11 schools in the country have this ability and Montair is the only school in British Columbia to obtain this credential.

Montair is also designated by the Private Training Institutions Regulatory Unit (PTIRU) of the British Columbia Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills.

PTIRU

The Private Training Institutions Regulatory Unit (PTIRU) of the British Columbia Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills. PTIRU is responsible for: Ensuring institutions meet the requirements and standards for certification, maintaining a Private Training Institution Directory of all certified institutions, the programs they provide,  providing student protection and overseeing the Student Tuition Protection Fund. For more information about PTIRU accreditation, visit PTIRU website here.

DESIGNATED B.C. PRIVATE TRAINING INSTITUTIONS REGULATORY UNIT & Shield Design mark is a certification mark owned by the Government

of British Columbia and used under licence.

EQA

Education Quality Assurance (EQA) is a quality assurance designation that identifies BC public and private post-secondary institutions that have met or exceeded provincial government recognized quality assurance standards and offer consumer protection. EQA provides one standard provincial seal that can be recognized globally as symbol of quality. The EQA seal allows students to easily identify which provincial institutions the government of BC recognizes as having met quality assurance standards and that offer consumer protection to learners. For more information about EQA designation, visit EQA website here.

Our Fleet

Montair’s expanding fleet of training aircraft has been carefully selected to ensure optimal training efficiency. The majority of the student’s flight training will be conducted in our fuel efficient single-engine Cessna aircraft fleet composed of 15 Cessna 172. In addition, we have 3 Piper PA-34 Seneca twin-engine aircraft, and 1 modern Alsim AL250 flight training device.

The aircraft are well equipped with advanced avionics and flight instruments. Basic training is conducted with analog instruments to facilitate solid instrument flying skills. These basic skills can be carried forward to advanced avionics and instruments such as Garmin 430, Aspen EFD1000, etc. in our IFR and Turbine trainers.

Preparation for the students’ transition to turbine aircraft operations is accomplished on a procedural training device designed to emulate the King Air operating characteristics. Cockpit Resource Management (CRM) training is also introduced at this time.

Pitt Meadows Training Base

Nestled between the mighty Fraser River and the majestic Golden Ears mountains, east of Vancouver, Pitt Meadows is a dynamic municipality with a growing population of just over 19,100. Most residents live in the urban town centre, which is located on a highland area. Eighty-two percent of Pitt Meadows is within the Green Zone, lands, including watersheds and 200 year flood plains, forests, wilderness areas, wildlife habitats, wetlands, recreational areas, farms and forestry areas that are fundamental to Metro Vancouver’s character and ecology. Pitt Meadows, an agricultural town, is over 68% within a flood plain with eighty-six percent of Pitt Meadows lying within the BC Agricultural Land Reserve as protected farmland. Lands designated as environmentally sensitive include wildlife conservation areas, such as Pitt-Addington Marsh and Codd Wetland Ecological Conservancy Area and the banks of the Fraser, Pitt and Alouette Rivers. Other areas within Pitt Meadows that are within the Green Zone include most of the area on the river side of the dikes, Municipal parks and greenways.

Flying Environment

Located in the Lower Fraser Valley, minutes east of downtown Vancouver just off Highway 1, Pitt Meadows is easily accessible from anywhere in the Lower Mainland. Pitt Meadows Airport (CYPK) serves as an ideal training location with a staffed control tower, three runways, restaurant and various air services.

Due to the airport’s close proximity to the local training areas, we are able to complete the student’s training in a more efficient manner as time is not wasted transiting to and from the airport.

With mountains to the north and ocean to the west Pitt Meadows offers students the unique opportunity to fly in one the most beautiful places on earth. Thanks to our warm summers and mild winters we are able to conduct flight training year-round. Experience and confidence will be gained operating in both controlled and uncontrolled airspace as students navigate their way to a number of different airports around the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island.

Recreation

The City of Pitt Meadows has a joint services agreement with Maple Ridge, and Pitt Meadows Parks & Leisure Services which serves both communities by providing staff, leadership and facilities for a variety of recreational activities.
