Commercial Pilot Licence

A Commercial Pilot Licence is what you need to improve your flying skills or to take the leap of starting a new and exciting career. You will be challenged to achieve a professional level of technical knowledge and piloting skills!

Montair's commercial pilot program has been reviewed and approved by the Private Training Institutions Regulatory Unit of the Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills. One of our staff or instructors will be happy to give you more details on both the flight training and the study material. Our comprehensive ground school is available on line with a flexible schedule for your convenience.

Training costs reflect Transport Canada minimum training times and the program follows Canadian Aviation Regulation guidelines. There are no membership fees at Montair. Further information on Transport Canada licensing and experience requirements can be found on the relevant section of the Canadian Aviation Regulations (SOR/96433 – Division VII), available on Transport Canada website - tc.canada.ca.   

Admission Requirements

  • Current information and application on file with Montair
  • Minimum Age of 17 years
  • Approval of the Chief Flight Instructor
  • Valid Private Pilot’s Licence, with copy on file
  • Valid Category 1 or 3 Aviation Medical, with copy on file**
  • Successful completion of a Transport Canada Aviation Language Proficiency Demonstration to a minimum of ICAO language proficiency level 4. 

Please note: Canadian citizens who have graduated, or are currently enrolled in, a Canadian English or French speaking high school, will qualify for an informal demonstration in the language that is, or will be if currently enrolled, indicated on their high school diploma, provided that the Chief Flight Instructor is satisfied that the person can demonstrate the competencies of Expert Level 6 as listed in standard 421.06(4) of the Canadian Aviation Regulations.

**It is strongly recommended that a Class 1 medical is obtained before training is commenced as it is a requirement for final licensing.

Aircraft rates are current as of Jan 6, 2025 and based on fuel costs at that time. Fuel charges may increase or decrease in line with retail fuel prices, in accordance with Montair’s Fuel Charge Pricing.

The TOTAL ESTIMATE is based on flight training being conducted in a Cessna 172 to meet Transport Canada minimum experience requirements of 65 Hours of flight training. Additional hours may be required to meet Transport Canada flight test standards.

CARs reference 401.30 and 421.30

This program can lead to a career as a Commercial Pilot, which is regulated by Transport Canada.
